Winter tourProgram
Below you can see suggestions for trips and the prices, but we can arrange individual tours after your personal wishes. We have complete base-camps, which can be put up wherever.
Dog-sledge tour to cabin in the mountains
Only very few sledge trips have been made in these areas, and only around 20 skiers visit it yearly. Therefore, it must be one of the least visited places in the Ammassalik area. Here we find a cabin, usually known as the "HC-cabin", named after its owner, Hans Christian Florian, the doctor in Tasiilaq. The cabin is situated in 700 metres height overlooking the fjord-system at Tasiilaq and a mountain formation called "The Triplet".
Day 1
At Kulusuk airport, you will be received by the Danish hunter Lars, who will be your guide during your tour. Outside the airport building, the dog-sledge will be waiting to bring you the 65 km's to Kummiut. We will make a couple of stops on the way to keep the dog-sledges gathered - the first stop will be after about two hours. Here a cup of coffee or tea will be served along with our packed lunch.
After approximately one-hour's break, we will continue up the fjord with arrival around 7 pm. Now you can enjoy a nice warm fish-soup with fresh-caught Greenland halibut and catfish.
This part will in some season be combined with boat, if there is no ice betwin Kulusuk and Kummiut.
Day 2
Just relax and have a look arround Kummiut
Day 3
We will start out from Kummiut, heading for Tunu, following the stream up to the glacier, which will be the first hard rising on our journey. Reaching the top of the glacier, you will have a good view all the way back to the sea, and ahead you can see a large valley with a frozen stream, upon which we well soon be pulled along by our dogs. But first of all we will have to make our way down to the lake below us. This is one of the most critical events during our trip. The only way is down the sides of the glacier; by the help of braking-ropes and with all dog-paws up, we will slowly slide down the steep sides towards the lake.
We will go about on hour up the stream and make camp.
Day 4
The next part of the way goes slightly upwards until we reach another steep place, where the dogs will give all they have, and we will have to get off and lend a hand, inch by inch pushing and pulling the sledge up the steep stretch to the top. Our reward is a magnificent view over the mountains and the system of fjords.
From here, it will go steadily downwards, apart from the last short stretch up to the HC-cabin, which we should reach around 5 hours
Here we can enjoy the fantastic view.

Day 5
At noon, we will pack the sledges to go back to Kummiut. As it will be downhill most of the way the ride wiill be faster (6-7 hours). On our way we will pass the stretches, we fought our way up the previous day. Only once will we have to get off to struggle our way up the steep slopes from the lake to the top of the glacier, from where we once again can enjoy the magnificent view towards the sea. Here we will have a coffee/tea-break.
After a long day on the sledges, you will spend the night at Travellodge.
Day 4
Day 6
