Adventure in Greenland.
Day 1
Arrival at Kulusuk Airport here you will be picked up by car transporting you to the waiting boat BUI. Then await a trip to Apusiaajik glacier, and after an approx. two hour cruise through the Ammassalik Fjord we will arrive in the East Greenland's largest settlement Kuummiut with approx. 370 inhabitants.
Kuummiut means the village by the river, and a small river run through the village. In Kuummiutt here is a shop, a kiosk and school with approx. 70 pupils. Out of the village around. 370 inhabitants the approx. 145 are under the age of 18, so there are always children playing in the village.
The primary occupation is fishing and seal hunting. Immediately upon arrival we will go into the shop and provision on you request for breakfast and lunch. The food may be in store in your house. A local family - Boas and Karen will be our hosts for an enjoyable evening, where we will have a Greenlandic inspired dinner.
Day 2
The next day we will visit the Knud Rasmussen Glacier, one of the loveliest places in East Greenland. The Glacier is approx. 8 km wide and approx. 50 m high, it is in constant motion. We will admire this natural phenomenon at a safe distance from the boat and if you desire you can be put ashore and walk closer on foot.
Day 3
We will leave Kuummiut and sail towards the village Tiniteqilaq, a boat ride of around. 2 hours. Tiniteqilaq is a small village with approx. 125 inhabitants; it lies in close proximity to East Greenland's largest ice fjord named Sermilik. From the village you can see the ice sheet stretching approx. 800 km from east to west. There are spectacular views of icebergs the size of skyscrapers. The icebergs in the fjord Sermilik are calved from the Helheim Glacier which produces 5% of the total Greenlandic ice.
You will be staying in a house and we shop at the grocery store, dinner will be at the home of a local family.
Day 4
We will sail to John Pedersen`s fjord, and if possible we will continue on to one of the glaciers, which flows directly from the ice cap, sometimes there are whales in the fjord.
Day 5 We sail through the ice fjord, past huge icebergs and after approx. 3 - 4 hours, we come
to East Greenland's largest town, with approx. 2000 inhabitants, Tasiilaq.
Day 6
You will have a whole day in Tasiilaq on your own where you can experience different activities: Visiting Tasiilaq Museum - A walk in the Valley of Flowers - A visit to the church - A trip to the harbor which is the central hub of daily life in Tasiilaq.
Day 7
You will return to Kulusuk and we say our farewell.
Important:
Weather, wind and ice conditions are crucial when sailing. The trip can be arranged according to your desire. There will be time to do some hiking, and there will also be time for you to explore places when we go ashore. The Boatman will also serve as a guide.
Standard of accommodation. In the villages, the houses have no running water, the toilet facilities are basic – they are emptied three times a week. Bathroom facilities are available in the local service center.
